Tissue paper window collage11/25/2023 ![]() ![]() Sometimes young children make something so beautiful with such a wonderful eye for color and design that it takes my breath away. I love this one above that is monochromatic. I sometimes set it up when we have 20 minutes left in class, or during the holidays when I need a quick craft table for the kids. Once you prep the collage materials, you can store them and then set up this project fairly quickly. (This can either be done by an adult, if the child is very young, or the child can do it herself.) Beading comes next, then attach the other side of the wire to the other hole.Īdding magazine clippings is really fun for older kids! Cut two holes at the top with a hole puncher, then twist the wire through one side. They can leave things sticking out on the sides, or they can trim. When they are finished, cover their collage with another piece of contact paper to seal it all up. See these contact paper flower face collagesĥ. The beads are meant for the wire hanger, so maybe it’s better to keep them off the table so that the kids don’t use them in their collage. Explore Sandra Chamberlains board 'Tissue paper windows', followed by 288 people on Pinterest. The only thing that doesn’t really work is if it gets too thick or bumpy. Now the children can make their collages! Anything goes. Tape the contact paper sticky-side up with masking tape to each place setting.Ĥ. The contact paper can look invisible sometimes so having the frame helps kids to see it better.ģ. Take a sheet of contact paper and before taking off the backing, go around the table and trace it with a pencil or marker, giving each child enough room to work. Put the baskets and trays of collage material in the middle of the table.Ģ. They LOVE it and always want to make more than one. For birthday parties, which move at a faster pace, you need a helper to take the sticker backing off the contact paper as kids are moving through the station. I have done this project with my students in class and also at birthday parties. How to prepare for Contact Paper Collage: ![]() ~ Various cut paper, such as tissue paper, tissue dots, colored paper, decorative scrapbook paper, magazine and catalog pages, painted newspaper I’ve linked a few of my faves at the end. ![]() This idea is an oldie and many bloggers and art teachers around the world know the magic of sticky paper. Once you have all the materials prepped, you can store them in baggies or containers and take them out easily and set this up in no time. They never tire of these materials and this prompt because it’s completely open-ended which kicks their imaginations into high gear. This contact paper collage art invitation is a favorite that we go back to again and again. If you have never used sticky paper with your kids, let me tell you that it is a sure thing. ![]()

Video watchdog exorcist subliminal11/25/2023 ![]() By extension, everything within the limits of acceptable societal convention, morality and the faith of human existence is put into question. 44-54.Ībjection is the defensive reaction of repulsion when the subject is forced to confront to (false) construction of the self. “Horror and the Monstrous-Feminine: An Imaginary Abjection.” Screen 27 (1) January-February (1986), pp. New York: Columbia University Press, 1982.Creed, Barbara. Dismemberment does not necessarily come from the physical removal of body parts but can also manifest itself through ventriloquism or disjointed sounds. Dolls, automatons and dismembered limbs that are powered by independent activity raise the uncertainty of whether or not the body is alive or dead. Another common use of the uncanny is through animism. The threat to the self is manifested through the use of doubles and the uncertainty of the identity of the double. It is essentially, the return of the repressed and it is projected onto objects, peoples and places and is a threatens the self by putting the self into question. This cognitive dissonance of two opposing terms has been used by scholars to define horror and it's paradoxical nature to both attract and repulse at the same time. It is something that is both familiar and unfamiliar, secret and revealed. The uncanny is that which has ought to have been secret but that has come to light. The uncanny (Sigmund Freud)įreud coins the term for the eery, the disturbingly strange. The audience simultaneously empathizes with the victims on screen while occupying the killer's point of view. Laura Mulvey also speaks of the spectatorship of siding with the killer in Peeping Tom (1960). As in Hitchcock's Strangers on a Train (1951), the director draws the audience into empathizing with the evil character in a race against time to commit murder. In many instances, the audience will merely mirror the emotional pain or anxiety exhibited by the character on screen regardless of the character's role in the plot. As in Tony Perrello's argument, the viewer experiences true horror not by seeing the monster or the gore but by sympathizing with the victim watching the horror. It can be argued that there is a greater fear in the unknown. This anxiety is not necessarily related to seeing the object of horror itself as it is in Guy de Maupassant's work but rather in the anxiety of not seeing. The optical technology that has defined modernity, such as the telescope or the microscope has proven that there are limits to our vision and that realms beyond what we can see exist and affect us. The anxiety of not being able to rely on our eyesight is a reoccurring sensorial theme. The theme of vision and the disruption of the modern reliance on vision has inspired several horror films that deal with the realms beyond our vision, whether it be in outer space or the contagion of disease. However, as the science of vision progresses the technology has disrupted the faithfulness of visual representation, which in turn has led to societal anxiety. Science through examination can give better insight into the world than faith in myth or religion. Modernity leans on the notion that seeing is related to knowing. In early gothic literature, such as in Guy de Maupassant's Le Horla, the author presents vision as proof over all and stresses the importance of seeing as well as the act of showing gore. Vision and the act of looking is a strong theme in many horror films. Ultimately given the vast and experimental nature of the horror film, horror defies Todorov's modes of representation and can emerge anywhere. There are several films that work in an alternate world model where the laws of science don't always apply a novum world model that is based in the supernatural or a fantastic world where the audience remains clouded in uncertainty. Todorov's genre categories, however, are useful to determine patterns in horror films. ![]() It is important to note, however that many criticize Todorov's model for genre theory, mainly due to the fact that it leaves little room for films that cross genres or that audiences emotionally identify as horror. According to Todorov, the fantastic lies in the audience's uncertainty where they cannot discern whether the events are natural or supernatural and experience the discomfort of not attaining a resolve. Although Todorov's approach to genre theory does not specifically define horror, his explanation of the fantastic has been used by Noel Carroll and other horror texts to help define the horror genre. ![]()

Stress fracture shin home remedies11/25/2023 ![]() ![]() These fractures include stress fractures to the anterior tibia (apparently due to poor local blood supply) and to the distal tibia (medial malleolus). These fractures may need to be surgically repaired to encourage and enhance the healing process. They are classified as “noncritical” because they heal well with the athlete usually returning to sports within six to eight weeks.Ĭritical stress fractures are those that do not heal well and continue to have a nonunion of the bones even after the recommended period of rest. Noncritical fractures are typically located in the medial tibia and the fibula. Stress fractures are generally classified as either non-critical or critical. What are the classifications of stress fractures? Stress fractures are seen in athletes in these sports because of the amount of jumping and/or running involved, the surfaces that the athletes compete on, and the types of shoes worn. Stress fractures of the tibia and/or fibula can also be seen in athletes in the sports of basketball, volleyball, soccer, baseball, and softball. The sport with the highest incidence of lower extremity stress fractures is track and field, specifically the distance runners. However, if left undiagnosed and untreated, athletes with stress fractures may run the risk of transitioning from a partial stress fracture into an acute fracture.Īthletes in a number of sports may have a higher risk for lower extremity stress fractures because of the amount of running and/or jumping required for their sport. Unlike most acute fractures in which the fracture is all of the way through the bone with an immediate onset of pain and associated functional disability, an athlete with a stress fracture may not know they have a fracture.Īlthough painful, some athletes may continue to participate with a stress fracture believing that the pain they are feeling is related to a muscle and/or tendon injury rather than to a bone injury. Stress fractures are unique in that the bone breaks down over time causing a small partial fracture within the bone. Most fractures have an acute onset meaning that there was one mechanism of injury that caused the fracture. ![]() According to Bahl and Maehlum (2004), up to 50% of all stress fractures occur in the tibia (shin) or fibula (two bones of the lower leg).Ī stress fracture is a partial fracture in a bone that is caused by repetitive loading over time. Lower extremity stress fractures are common injuries in the world of sports especially in athletes whose sports require a significant amount of jumping and running. Diffraction grating equation a level11/24/2023 ![]() The general grating equation might be represented as: The distance among the adjacent grooves and the angle they form by the substrate influence both the dispersion and effectiveness of the grating.Ī holographic grating, by contrary, is produced by employing a photolithographic process where an interference pattern is produced to expose preferentially portions of a photo resist coating. A ruled grating is generated via physically forming grooves on a reflective surface by employing a diamond tool mounted on the ruling engine. The Diffraction gratings can be categorized into two fundamental categories: holographic and ruled. The worth of a grating depends on the fact that there exists a unique set of discrete angles all along which, for a specific spacing 'd' between grooves, the diffracted light from each and every facet is in phase having the light diffracted from any other facet, therefore they join beneficially.ĭiffraction Gratings - Ruled and Holographic The light diffracted by each and every groove combines to form a diffracted wavefront. ![]() We can picture each and every grating groove as being an extremely small, slit-shaped source of diffracted light. The monochromatic light is incident on the grating surface it is diffracted to a discrete directions. If the diffraction angle, θ m, is not small, then the wavelength should be computed from the formula: Here, 'L' is the distance from the grating to the screen where the pattern is represented and L > x m. Whenever the linear distance between the center of the Zeroth order maximum and the m th bright maximum is represented by x m, then sin (θ m) is approximately represented by: Here, 'm' is the order of the diffraction maximum, 'd' is the separation among the slits, 'λ' is the wavelength of the light, and θ m is the angular displacement from the center of the Zeroth order maximum (that is, the center of pattern) to the center of the m th order maximum. The position of the m th maximum in the pattern is represented by the relationship: Whenever laser light passes via the grating, a regular pattern of sharp bright maxima in the intensity of the light can be made on a screen. A diffraction grating is comprised of a large number of narrow evenly spaced slits. Whenever coherent monochromatic light, like that from a laser, passes via a narrow slits an interference pattern is made. The peak intensities are as well higher and based proportionally to the second power of amount of the slits illuminated. ![]() The condition for the maximum intensity is similar as that for the double slit or multiple slits however having a huge number of slits the intensity maximum is extremely sharp and narrow, giving the high resolution for the spectroscopic applications. These preferred directions depend on the wavelength, and therefore the light beams having different wavelength will propagate in various directions. ![]() There are selected directions at which the light waves from the different slits interfere in phase and in these directions the maximums of the light intensity are observed. Due to interference, the intensity of the light getting passed via the slits based on the direction of the light propagation. The device generally comprises of thousands of narrow, closely spaced parallel slits (or grooves). Diffraction Grating is the optical tool employed to learn the different wavelengths or colors contained in a light beam. ![]()

I have confidence that she will grow on me with time. It is hard to move past the two previous ladies in the role. Julie McKinzie debut as Miss Marple took some adjustment for me. The excellent line-up of British actors helped this production of one of Christie’s clever mysteries shine. I think it is time to stop looking at every new production through the specter of Austenland. But – what’s this? She doesn’t want to talk? That can’t be. Oh, and there’s Miss Bates (Prunella Scales). The cast in this production had me so distracted as each new character appeared that I had to remember that this was a Miss Marple mystery and not a Jane Austen movie. Why is the killer using the pattern of a nursery rhyme? Who will be next? World conqueror 4 198011/24/2023 ![]() ![]() Despite this early writing on the wall, the misconception that TB could be conquered by antibiotics and BCG vaccination led to complacency for several decades. Initially, treatment with streptomycin appeared highly efficacious, but the tide turned when drug resistance rapidly developed, an early testimony of Mtb's ability to acquire drug resistance when treated by single antibiotics. These hopes were further boosted by the development of the first anti-tuberculous drugs during WWII by Selman Waksman, who discovered streptomycin bacteriostatic activity towards Mtb ( 7). bovis BCG vaccine, isolated by and named after Calmette and Guerin in Lille, France ( 6). Early last century, hopes were that TB could be conquered by vaccination with the newly developed M. Mtb, the intracellular pathogen that causes TB, was discovered in 1882 by Robert Koch and is responsible for more human deaths than any other single pathogen today ( 3- 5). In this article we review several important milestones of BCG vaccine development from the discovery till today. No universal BCG vaccination policy exists, with some countries merely recommending its use and others that have implemented immunization programs. However, its efficacy remains controversial. Bacille Calmette-Guérin (BCG) is the only vaccine available today and has been used for more than 90 years with astonishing safety records. Treating and preventing TB has become a permanent challange since the ancient times. Moreover the emergence of multi-drug resistant TB and the current TB-HIV epidemic has raised even greater concern. Due to its infectious nature, chronic progression and long treatment, TB is a great burden for society. ![]() "Consumption" and "Phthisis" were terms historically used to describe TB, which was responsible for one in four deaths in the 19th century. ![]() Tuberculosis (TB) is still responsible for 2 million deaths every year despite being a treatable airborne infectious disease. ![]()

Email for gmail account11/24/2023 ![]() ![]() The main reason I like Yahoo Mail is that every person who signs up gets 1 TB of free storage for email. Not as many filters/rules as other email providers. There are also gadgets (add-ons) to extend Gmail's functionality. Some other things I like include access to tons of advanced settings, the ability to create filters and labels, and the option to import email from other email accounts. There are themes you can apply to Gmail's interface to customize how it appears so it feels more like your space. It works with Meet's picture-in-picture feature, so I can see and hear people I'm working with while composing a message or reading an email. ![]() This means I can use my account to collaborate with people on projects or hold virtual meetings. I love how closely connected Gmail is with the company's other products. You can also send emails that expire and require a unique code to open, store messages in a 15 GB vault, share files from your Drive account, undo sending messages, and set up vacation responses. It has some other nifty features, too, such as the option to snooze emails for later, schedule emails to be sent later, and read mail offline. It has a modern feel, is tightly integrated with the company's other services, and does a good job of blocking spam. I've used Google's free email service for many years. Additionally, any action you take for this account via the Gmail client won’t be synced to the original client you were using – sent messages, deleted messages, read messages etc. It's probably not a surprise that Gmail tops this list of the best free email accounts. To pull email from your custom account, Gmail uses the something called POP3 protocol which means that emails sent to this account will take a bit more to show up compared to the original client you were using for this address. To remove the custom address, head back to Settings> Accounts and Import and hit the delete button, as illustrated below. When sending an email, click on the ‘From’ tab to switch between your original Gmail account and the custom address that you have synced. From now on, you will be able to check your mail for this address via Gmail, as well as sending email using this address. ![]()

Knocked up nude scenes11/24/2023 ![]() ![]() Still, if there's a lot of Knocked Up, then a lot of it is a lot of fun, and it's hard to know what one would have left on the editing room floor. (Wouldn't it have been more interesting if Alison had had a rival for her affections?) Too many sequences require Rogen to say something tactless and blokeish, and for Heigl to roll her eyes or storm out before taking her unlikely suitor back. At 129 minutes, Knocked Up is a longer film than its predecessor, and a mushier film, when it finally gets round to it: Virgin climaxed with that wild and wonderfully wayward Hair pastiche, but this latest starts showing you baby photos, like an insistent parent. It's here Knocked Up starts to suffer, because after The 40-Year-Old Virgin (two hours plus), Apatow appears a director unusually fond of his own deleted scenes. Around them, Apatow has gathered a supporting cast whose asides and adlibs take the film, and its constituent relationships, off in entirely different directions. Heigl is game enough to play a young woman who is, at various points, at least ten years more mature than any of the men in her life, hormonally unreasonable, and all too willing to submit to her man's less perverse desires, helpfully enumerating the nude scenes in Carrie, which is one way for lovers to bond her shake of the head when presented with faced with Neve Campbell and Denise Richards' swimming-pool liaison in Wild Things - a scene that has always played better with men than with women - is possibly the truest moment in the picture. Rogen remains entirely convincing as both a fuzzy sleazeball jerk - the type of guy who accuses others of watching films without nudity as though it were the worst crime a red-blooded male could commit - and as the most redeemable figure among a set of bearded, grungy no-hopers who'd rather dash off to see Spider-Man 3 than do any work. Knocked Up's finale reverts to fairly conventional cooing at a newborn in swaddling clothes, but up until that point, it makes for a most enjoyable romantic comedy of unpredictable events, both at plot level (in the unexpected declaration of pregnancy that brings the two leads together) and on a scene-by-scene basis (in the spontaneity Apatow fosters in his performers). His gift lies in finding new ways to tell the same old stories: tossing in dirty jokes, plentiful pop-cultural references (Rogen and Rudd's "you know how I know you're gay?" schtick from Virgin here morphs into a homoerotic reclamation of dialogue from Back to the Future: "I'll strap you into my DeLorean and get you up to 88") and moments of gross-out comedy (a prosthetic vagina features as the baby starts crowning). The dramatis personae here include men who won't (or find it hard to) grow up women who are held back from personal fulfilment by a unrelenting insecurity around other women and a married couple (Leslie Mann and Paul Rudd) whose underlying resentment of Ben and Alison's first-flush happiness very nearly results in divorce.įrom his first two films, it's become apparent that Apatow is at heart a traditionalist, interested in the ways men and women interact these days, but he's one forever careful to overwrite the conventional sex comedy's standard-issue scuzziness and cynicism with a pervasive and persuasive sweetness. (I'm guessing Apatow's research must have been an eye-opener.) One night, Ben gets a call out of the blue: it's Alison, and she's pregnant, a situation Ben doesn't take very well - a disbelieving "fuck off" is the precise term deployed - but comes to live with over the subsequent nine months.įrom one shot of Rogen's flabby, spotty, hairy buttocks as observed on the morning after Ben and Alison's first tryst, it's possible to identify Knocked Up as a film with precious few illusions or preconceptions about modern love. It's no surprise to learn the pair part soon after, as a result of irreconciliable life differences: she's an ambitious producer-turned-director for the E! network, while he's a dyed-in-the-wool stoner who can't even get a celebrity porn website up-and-running his idea of an appealing proposition is "I'll show you Meg Ryan's bush". ![]() His follow-up Knocked Up plots the circumstances leading up to - and the consequences of - one of the more unlikely hook-ups in recent screen history: that between chubby slacker Ben Stone (Seth Rogen) and eligible, Britney-esque blonde Alison (Katherine Heigl), who retire to the latter's place after a drunken encounter in an L.A. ![]() With 2005's The 40-Year-Old Virgin - in my book, one of the three best American comedies since the turn of the century ( Stuck on You and Borat being the other two, in case you're wondering) - the writer-director Judd Apatow announced himself as a truly adult filmmaker: one terrifically funny and filthy of mind but pure of heart. ![]() |
